Author Guidelines

Unless otherwise stated, all correspondence regarding the submitted manuscripts will be conducted with the first author. Manuscript submission will be made online and uploaded via www.cediddergi.com.

Submitted manuscripts must be sent by attaching the plagiarism report, the electronic file of the manuscript written in Microsoft Word 2003 or higher versions, and the ‘Copyright Agreement Form’ signed by all authors.

  1. Manuscripts must be written in Times New Roman font (special fonts can be used provided they are partial), 12-point size, and with 1.5 line spacing.
  2. In the manuscript, all headings must be written in bold with only the first letters capitalized. Main headings (main sections, references, and appendices) must be written in 12-point size and bold characters.
  3. Intermediate and subheadings must be written in 12-point size and bold characters; a colon must be placed at the end of the subheadings, and the text must continue on the same line.
  4. In the manuscript, there must be a Turkish abstract of 200-250 words after the title and before the introduction section, and an English abstract of 200-250 words after the Turkish abstract. The abstracts must contain a minimum of 5 and a maximum of 8 keywords.
  5. Submitted manuscripts (including abstracts and references) must not exceed 10,000 words. (Due to their importance, longer manuscripts may be published by the decision of the Editorial Board. Contents such as text editions should be placed in the APPENDIX section of the manuscript.)
  6. The author’s name should be located immediately below the title, the author’s surname should be written in capital letters, and with a “*” footnote, their title, institution (including faculty and department name), city and country name, e-mail address, ORCID, and ROR ID (Research Organization Registry) number should be included.
  7. The Spelling Guide of the Turkish Language Institution must be followed in texts and abbreviations.
  8. In transcription text studies, one of the Timesefras, Munevver, Oktay New Transkripsiyon, or Timestrans fonts must be used. Transcription studies submitted with a font other than these will not be accepted. These fonts will only be used in the text section. In the “introduction, analysis, conclusion, etc.” sections of the manuscripts, the Times New Roman character will be used as specified in article 1.
  9. Only the APA system should be used for footnotes and references.
  10. All legal, criminal, and scientific responsibility of the studies submitted to our journal for publication within the rules belongs to the author(s). It has no binding liability on the journal in any way. The author is deemed to have accepted all the principles herein in advance.
  11. In line with the Editorial Board and reviewer reports, authors may be requested to make some corrections on the text.

Tables and Figures

Tables must have a number and a title. The table number should be written at the top, fully left-aligned and upright; the table title should be written in italics with the first letter of each word capitalized. Tables should be placed where they need to be within the text. Figures must be prepared suitable for black and white printing. Figure numbers and names should be written centered immediately below the figure. The figure number should be written in italics and end with a period. Right next to it, the figure name should be written upright with only the first letter capitalized.

Images

They must be submitted as an attachment to the manuscript, scanned in high resolution and print quality. In naming images, the rules for figures and tables must be followed.

Citations

Quotations must be given in quotation marks; quotations of less than 140 words should be written inline, while longer quotations should be written indented 1.5 cm from the right and left of the line, in block format, with 1.5 line spacing, and 1 point smaller.

Citations to be made in the manuscript must be given in parentheses immediately after the relevant place, in the order of the author’s surname, the publication year of the work, and the page number. Work names must be in italics.
Example: (Okay, 2016, p. 142)

In cases where more than one source will be cited, the works are listed in the same parentheses, from the oldest to the newest, separated by semicolons.
Example: (Köprülü, 1989 p. 125; Okay, 2016, p. 115)

In sources with two authors, “and” is placed in between. In sources with more than two authors, the abbreviation “et al.” should be used after the surname of the first author.
Examples: (Andı and Akay 2010, p. 223). (Kaplan, Enginün et al. 1988 p. 217)

If the author’s name is mentioned in the relevant sentence, it is sufficient to specify the date and page in parentheses.
Example: (2015, p. 23)

If the author has two works published in the same year, it is indicated by adding a letter to the publication year.
Examples: (Ahmet Midhat, 2010a, p. 37), (Ahmet Midhat, 2010b, p. 72)

Works published in the same year by two authors with the same surname are indicated by also writing the first letters of their names.
Examples: (Balcı, F. 2014, p. 83), (Balcı, M. 2014, p. 112)

When citing an inaccessible publication in the text, the work from which the quotation is made should be shown along with this source as follows:
Example: (cited from Köprülü, 1924, p. 75; Demirci, 1998, p. 25)

Footnotes and Reference List

Footnotes: Footnotes are used only for mandatory explanations. Citations here should also be arranged with the author’s surname, the publication year of the work, and the page number in parentheses.
Example: (Çoruk, 2016, p. 118)

Reference List: All sources used in the manuscript must be included in the “Reference List”; even if they are related to the subject of the manuscript, documents and works not mentioned in the text should not be included in the reference list. References should be given in alphabetical order according to the authors’ surnames at the end of the main text (For those before the Surname Law, the author’s name is taken as a basis). Work names must be written in italics.

a. Books and book-like works
Author’s surname (lowercase), first initial (publication year). title of the book (italics). city of publication: publisher.
Example: Okay, M. O. (2005). Batılılaşma Devri Türk Edebiyatı. Istanbul: Dergâh Yayınları.

If the work has a preparer, editor, or translator, it is given after the book title as follows:
Author’s surname, first initial (publication year). title of the work. (italics) [prepared by] prep., [editor] ed. or [translator] trans. name surname, city of publication, publisher.
Example: Ersoy, M. A. (1991). Safahat. prep. M. Ertuğrul Düzdağ. Istanbul: İz Yayıncılık.
Stevick, P. (2004). Roman Teorisi, trans. Sevim Kantarcıoğlu. Ankara: Akçağ Yay. 2nd ed.

b. Articles in periodicals:
Journals: Author’s surname, first initial (year, month), “title of the article”, name of the journal (italics), volume no, issue: page range.
Example: Çetişli, İ. (2000). “Bir Neslin veya Bir Şairin Romanı: Mâi ve Siyah”. Türk Yurdu. Vol. XX, No. 153-154, May-June, 318-333.

c. Theses
Author’s surname, name, (date), title of the thesis, city: university and institute name: (unpublished bachelor’s/master’s/doctoral thesis).

d. Information taken from the internet
Author’s surname, first initial. (last update date). “title of the internet document”, (access date), internet address.
Example: Koçak, A. (2014.01.01). “HİLMİ, Şehbenderzâde Filibeli Ahmed Hilmi” https://teis.yesevi.edu.tr/madde-detay/ahmet-sehbenderzade (Access date: 2024)
