Cedid is a peer-reviewed academic journal of literature that aims to examine modern Turkish literature in all its aspects and from an interdisciplinary perspective. The journal publishes original research on literary genres such as poetry, the novel, the short story, drama, criticism and the essay, as well as in the fields of literary theory, the sociology and philosophy of literature, comparative literature and cultural studies.

The historical sources of literature, its transformations during the process of modernization and new theoretical approaches also fall within our scope. Blending the historical development of literary texts with contemporary theoretical methods, Cedid evaluates literature not only within its own boundaries but also at the points where it intersects with language, culture, sociology, philosophy and art history, thereby encouraging interdisciplinary studies.

Our journal takes its name from the Arabic word meaning “new”. For Cedid this concept stands as a symbol of the innovative pursuits and aesthetic transformations that have shaped Turkish literature since the late nineteenth century. In this context, Cedid places the innovative aspects of literature at its centre without disregarding the deep-rooted experience of the past, and aims to build a substantial and lasting body of scholarship for researchers and institutions working in the field of modern Turkish literature.
